FBA & Behavior Support
in Dubai
Understanding why a behavior occurs is the first step to changing it. Our BCBA-led Functional Behavior Assessments and individualized support plans address the root cause — not just the symptom.
What is a Functional Behavior Assessment?
Every behavior serves a purpose. A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is a structured, evidence-based process that identifies the function — or "why" — behind a challenging behavior. Rather than reacting to the behavior itself, an FBA helps us understand what your Learner is communicating and what they are getting or avoiding through that behavior.
At AIS Dubai, our BCBAs conduct thorough FBAs using direct observation, caregiver interviews, and data analysis. The result is a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) built on real evidence — giving everyone in your Learner's life a clear, consistent strategy to follow.
- Identifies the function (purpose) behind every challenging behavior
- Replaces guesswork with data-driven, evidence-based analysis
- Informs a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) tailored to your Learner
- Conducted by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs)
- Applicable in home, school, clinic, and community settings
- Reduces challenging behaviors while building meaningful replacement skills

Our Behavior Support Services
A comprehensive suite of services to assess, plan, and support lasting behavior change.
Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)
A systematic process to identify the antecedents, behaviors, and consequences maintaining a challenging behavior — so we can address the root cause, not just the surface.
Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
A written, individualized plan developed from FBA findings. It outlines proactive strategies, teaching replacement behaviors, and response procedures for all caregivers.
Targeted Skill Building
We teach functionally equivalent replacement behaviors — giving your Learner a more appropriate way to meet the same need that was driving the challenging behavior.
Caregiver & Staff Training
Parents, teachers, and support staff are trained to implement the BIP consistently across all environments, maximizing generalization and long-term success.
Ongoing Data Monitoring
Behavior data is collected and reviewed regularly. BCBAs adjust strategies based on progress, ensuring the plan remains effective as your Learner grows.
Crisis Prevention Planning
For high-intensity behaviors, we develop proactive safety plans and de-escalation protocols to protect your Learner and those around them.
The FBA & Behavior Support Process
From first contact to ongoing implementation — a structured, collaborative journey.
Referral & Intake
Contact our team to describe the behaviors of concern. We'll discuss your Learner's history and determine whether an FBA is the right starting point.
Indirect Assessment
Our BCBA conducts structured interviews and rating scales with parents, teachers, and caregivers to gather background information about the behavior.
Direct Observation
We observe your Learner across relevant settings, recording antecedents, behaviors, and consequences to identify patterns and hypothesize the function.
FBA Report & BIP Development
Findings are summarized in a written FBA report. A Behavior Intervention Plan is then developed with clear, practical strategies for all environments.
Implementation & Review
The BIP is implemented with ongoing BCBA support. We monitor data, train caregivers, and review the plan regularly to ensure lasting progress.
Common Questions
What is the difference between an FBA and a BIP?
An FBA (Functional Behavior Assessment) is the investigative process that identifies why a behavior is occurring. A BIP (Behavior Intervention Plan) is the action plan developed from those findings — it describes what to do before, during, and after the behavior occurs.
Does my Learner need an autism diagnosis to access behavior support?
No. While many of our clients have an autism diagnosis, FBA and behavior support services are appropriate for any Learner displaying challenging behaviors that affect their quality of life, regardless of diagnosis.
How long does an FBA take?
A thorough FBA typically takes two to four weeks, depending on the complexity of the behavior and the number of settings observed. We prioritize accuracy over speed — a well-conducted FBA leads to a far more effective BIP.
Can behavior support be delivered at school?
Yes. We work collaboratively with schools to implement BIPs in the classroom, train teachers and support staff, and attend school meetings to advocate for your Learner's needs.
Will this work alongside our existing ABA therapy?
Absolutely. FBA and behavior support integrate seamlessly with ABA therapy. Many families access both services through AIS, allowing for a fully coordinated approach under one team.
